This month we will be teaching the children about autumn and the changes that this brings to our environment and lives. We will be going out to see the leaves falling from the trees and using them in our art and craft activities.
Part of our role as early years educators is to teach children that people come in all shapes and sizes, and some have conditions which make them look different. We teach them that we must all accept, embrace and celebrate these differences. Dwarfism awareness month in October is an event to spread awareness and increase the visibility of dwarfism.
We will be celebrating Harvest Festival during October by teaching the children about how food is harvested and why food is important. One important aspect of these exercises is to also teach children how fortunate we are to have high-quality affordable food available to us.
Diwali on 24 October is a five-day celebration originating from the Indian subcontinent so we will also be talking to the children about traditional Diwali activities.
